Recovering well

Mary's been back at school a couple of days now, and is recovering well.  She's been able to start backing off her calcium supplements as expected, and has even been back to her dance class once.

I don't expect to post any more updates here about this surgery.  Thank You to everyone for Your concern and prayers!

Doing OK, but probably not going to school tomorrow

Mary's doing pretty well, but not exactly feeling great.  She's thinking about not going to school tomorrow, but definitely wants to be back by Friday.

Sore but doing OK

Well, Mary's pretty sore tonight, in the throat and chest, but she's well enough to want a snicker-doodle.

Post-surgical shopping

No surgery is complete without a bit of shopping among the Christmas decorations ...even if it is a perfectly mild 82 degrees. :)

Sore but good

Mary's feeling pretty sore around her neck, but otherwise in good shape.  She's got to take calcium supplements every couple hours throughout the day perhaps for months, but that's not such bad medicine, and she doesn't have to wake up during the night to take any.

Thank You!

A giant Thank You! to everyone who prayed for the success of Mary's surgery and recovery.  Of course we can't find words to say how much Your prayers and thoughts mean to us.

Hope

"Take a nail, for instance. If you meet no resistance when you hammer it into a wall, what can you expect to hang on it?" -Josemaría Escrivá

"For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you." -Jeremiah 29:11 RSV

"Every knock is a boost." -Grandma Bell

Supper

Mary's feeling a little woozy, and her throat's a bit sore, but she ate a good supper. Now we're watching a bit o' the tube, but she'll be going to sleep pretty soon. We thank God for how well things went today.

Awake and smiling

Mary's talking with the nurse about nursing, and is smiling and in good spirits.

Waking up

Mary is more or less conscious, but has been reciting tidbits of Hamlet.

Mary's in surgery

I just noticed that a couple of our recent posts have not been posted. In any case, Mary went into surgery about an hour ago. We don't know whether they're done yet, or even whether they've started. But it would good to pray now.

Waiting...

Surgery!

Mary has gone into surgery. OK, pray! It should be very straightforward.

Consult 3

Just met with the 2nd surgeon. All systems 'Go'.

Consult 2

Just met with the surgeon. There's one more surgery ahead of Mary's. Mary's doing well, but hungry for grilled chicken with sauteed mushrooms, grilled broccoli, onions, warm french bread with olive oil and parmesan cheese, and them some chocolate cheesecake. And a glass of milk.

Consult 1

Just met with the anaesthesiologist; should be a routine procedure.

Waiting for the docs

We're waiting for a presurgical consultation with the surgeons. Then, Mary probably will have a scan of her parathyroids.

At the hospital

Arrived at the hospital just a few minutes ago. Mary's headache has a headache, because she's not allowed to eat since last night... But she's ready to go meet the surgeons.

Surgery Monday

Mary has her parathyroid surgery Monday mid-afternoon. The procedure normally is pretty quick, often under a half-hour. The surgeons doing this procedure are specialists in this surgery; in fact, it's the only type of procedure they perform, and have done it thousands of times. We're expecting she'll be out of the hospital within a few hours. Please remember to offer a prayer that all goes as expected.
